The maxillary posterior teeth are very closely adjacent to the maxillary sinus in many patients. Due to extraction and long-term edentulism, sometimes the bone at the base of the maxillary sinus melts and there is not enough bone for the implant. In these and similar cases, it may be necessary to remove the maxillary sinus floor and add bone, depending on the clinical examination and the need for the implant to be placed.

It may be possible to place the implants in the same session, depending on factors such as the experience of the physician, the condition of the area to be added bone, and the systemic condition of the patient.
